Alan studied at Glen Agricultural college, where he received his diploma (Science and Practice in Agriculture) in 1973. For the next 9 years, he worked on farms in Israel, Swaziland and South Africa. In Swaziland he worked on projects with the Ministry of education where established a centre training specialized agriculture teachers. During 1982/3, he studied Biodynamic Agriculture at Emerson College, Sussex, England with Prof. Koepf. He worked on farms in England till 1988 when he returned to South Africa. He then spent 8 years developing a biodynamic smallholding in a home for people in need of special care. The following 2 years were spent in informal settlements training people in household food security and small scale commercial agriculture through cooperatives. In 2001, Lindros Whole Earth Consultants was born. Alan is a module leader for Systems and Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture for a Programme in Sustainable Development, School of Public Management and Planning, University of Stellenbosch and Sustainability Institute in South Africa. Alan is a member of South African Organic Section Organisation (SAOSO).
